Independence Day of India Images: This day is observed as a national holiday
in India to show respect for all the freedom fighters who gave their lives by
shedding their blood to make India independent by fighting with the
British. The day commemorate political independence from of the
nation from the British rule on 15th August 1947 and that
independence is celebrated every year, although in a much more subdued form
than on Republic Day.
It is a moment of celebration, a day to
pay tribute to the martyrs because of whose struggle and sacrifice we are
breathing an air of freedom. “At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the
world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom,” said Jawaharlal Nehru
about this, one of the most important days in the history of the Indian
nation. Independence Day is acknowledged as a national holiday in India.

We
need to think today what changes we would like to see in the decade ahead.
If in the future we can achieve the same kind of progress as in the last decade, the day is not far off when India will be rid of poverty, hunger, disease and ignorance. Our India will be prosperous and all its citizens will be equal partners in this prosperity, irrespective of their religion, caste, region or language.
We will also need to build an environment of political stability, social cohesion and security for this to happen.
Let us all re-dedicate ourselves to building such an India together.
